CHICAGO, May 25, 2018 -- With the June 1 entry deadline fast approaching, the countdown is on for the 110th Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac (CYCRTM) presented by Wintrust. To date, 310 boats are signed up to race in one of 22 sections split between racing and cruising sailboats.
 
Once again, our friends at the Hyatt Regency Chicago are delighted to be part of the Race to Mackinac and are offering a special room rate for Mac racers.
 
The 109th Mac saw a large number of boats retire early; about 1/3 of the fleet did not complete the race. It’s been many years since the fleet has had so many retirements. CYC Mac Committee launched an analysis to determine what the causes were for so many retirements amongst the monohull fleet, and we wanted to share the results with our fellow sailors in the hope that we can all learn a little bit and be better prepared to face challenging conditions in future years.

Chicago Yacht Club is pleased to announce that Wintrust has signed a five-year extension to be the Presenting Sponsor of the Club’s Annual Race to Mackinac, and the Club’s Chicago Regatta that raises funds to benefit children in Chicagoland. The extension runs through 2023.
 
Chicago Yacht Club’s Race to Mackinac is voted “America’s Greatest Regatta” in a recent online US Sailing ranking competition.
 
As we think about getting our boats ready for the season, here are some more things to consider for getting the most performance out of your boat, and having the most fun on the race course while sailing fast.
 
Safety at Sea training is strongly recommended by the Mac Committee for all sailors participating in the CYC Race to Mackinac.
 
The Chicago Yacht Club Mackinac Committee wants to draw your attention to a significant change implemented with the 2018 Chicago Mackinac Safety Regulations. Effective this year, each boat is required by CMSR 3.8.2 to “…have a watertight handheld VHF radio or handheld VHF radio with waterproof cover. The radio shall have DSC/GPS capability with an MMSI number properly registered to the vessel.” ​
 
To celebrate Illinois' bicentennial, the Chicago Tribune created an ultimate bucket list. Each month they are rolling out a new installment, divided into 10 categories, each with 20 entries.
