Beating the sunrise, the 60’ trimaran Earth Voyager glided through the finish line as the first racing boat to finish the 111th Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac presented by Wintrust just after 4 a.m., three hours ahead of the first monohull to finish, the TP 52 Windquest.
Overnight the doldrums dissipated, and a light breeze filled in over much of the Lake Michigan racecourse to help the Racing and Cruising boats continue their push north. As of 11:30 a.m. just under 50 teams have finished but it’s beginning to look like a Parade of Boats looking toward the Straits.
Race Committee will be getting its workout as big packs of finishers convene toward the Round Island Lighthouse. Keep tabs on pictures and video throughout the day via Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
