Race Update | April Letter from the Race Chair

It’s great to see the early excitement and interest for the 113th Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac presented by Wintrust. In just the first month of registration opening, we have already surpassed the 230-boat entry mark and are on track for one of the largest races in recent years.

Please note that new amendments to the Notice of Race have been posted on the Official Notice Board, please make sure to review. I also have a number of logistics updates across lodging, race gear and ORC certificates, so please read on to learn more:

  • We have secured room blocks at a discounted rate at both the Mission Point Resort and the Grand Hotel. Please make sure to reference the CYC Race to Mac Rate when booking your reservation.

  • Official 113th CYCRTM gear is now available at the Team One Newport Store. Make sure to get your orders in early and keep checking back as new items will be added as we approach the start of the race.

  • Crowley’s has recently received more AIS MOB devices for those of you interested in purchasing. Visit their Mac Safety Gear page for specials and be sure to use the code MACRACER for additional discounts at checkout.

  • US Sailing is now accepting applications for 2022 new and re-validated ORC Club, ORCi, ORC Double Handed and ORC Non-Spinnaker certificates using the online forms found at the ORC page of the US Sailing Offshore website

Please join us for the upcoming presentation, Safety at Sea: the Latest in Leadership, Seamanship, Damage Control, & Crew Overboard, with veteran America's Cup and offshore sailor Rich du Moulin.  This informational program is a must for all sailors who venture offshore, and is a precursor to the "Hands On Safety at Sea Seminar" that will be held October 1 - 2, 2022.

We’re excited to share that again this year we will be hosting the Team Race Challenge for the Point Betsie Trophy. The application can be found in the Race Documents. In order to compete, teams of three monohull boats will join together to race against other three-boat teams. The team of boats with the best combined percentage placement in their divisions will prevail. To be eligible, teams must be formed from boats racing in at least two of the three monohull divisions and may have no more than one cruising division boat. Additionally, a boat may only participate on one team. Applications are due by June 15th.
