Race Update | May Letter from the Race Chair

We are starting to see boats back in the harbors and the horses have made their way to Mackinac Island, which only means one thing - it’s almost summer. We are looking forward to a fast and fun 113th Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac, and I wanted to share a few reminders as we are approaching some deadlines.

Important Race Notices

June 1st is the entry deadline.  If you have not yet completed your registration or know other boats that are thinking about racing - please spread the word and make sure that your entry has met all of the minimum requirements.  June 15th is the late entry deadline.

The Request for Change functionality is now available on your entry dashboard.  If your vessel has changed or if you wish to change divisions, you must submit a request for change, which includes a preliminary crew list with completed profiles.

As a reminder, make sure that you have all of you have submitted all necessary data to US Sailing to apply for or renew your ORC Rating Certificate as soon as possible to ensure that your certificate is available for the race.

Also, please make sure to thoroughly review the safety regulations (CMSR’s), available on the Official Notice Board, to make sure you and your crew are prepared to meet all of the requirements for this year’s race. These regulations do vary each year - and new for 2022 are rules 5.10 and 5.11, requiring personal MOB devices for all crew and an AIS signal requirement for boats. More details can be found in the official CMSRs.

The official crew safety drills have been posted to the Official Race Documents.  Each Invited Competitor is to indicate via their Entry Menu the date by which these drills were completed and the participating crew members from the boat’s crew list.  The Invited Competitor, Person-in-Charge and all Watch Captains must have practiced these safety drills alongside the boat’s crew such that at least two-thirds of the total crew has completed these drills.

Upcoming Events:

The CYCRTM Safety Sub-Committee is hosting on-the-water safety exercises in June and July designed to help crews become familiar with the lifesaving capabilities of the Personal MOB Device with AIS. Click here more information on the event, upcoming dates, and how to register. These events are free, will take place in Chicago, with similar excercises taking place in Milwaukee and Macatawa Bay, and all boaters and racers are welcome.

Race Logistics:
